Santos Festival of Cycling: RICHIE PORTE CONQUERS WILLUNGA HILL FOR THE SEVENTH TIME.

The athlete the Team Ineos Grenadiers, today competing with the Australian national team jersey, wins for the seventh time on the epic climb of the Tour Down Under. Richie Porte, who has joined the NORTHWAVE athletes team this year, leaves no room for those who wanted to take his place! The Willunga Hill becomes for the seventh time, the “Richie Porte climb”! Be Safe Be Seen Men's Stage 3 McLaren Vale to Willunga was full of surprises, complete with a breakaway, two nail biting sprints and an unpredictable final climb. An early attack saw a breakaway of five, which quickly grew to nine after a brave response from some of the peloton. The breakaway created a 2:30 gap, before the climbers from the peloton, complete with Richie Porte, Luke Durbridge and Luke Plapp, caught up by the base of Willunga Hill. Then, it was only Richie's race. Close on Richie's back wheel was the Team Garmin Australia teammate, and the BikeExchange Stage 2 winner, Luke Plapp within the final 1km in a case of master and apprentice riding in tandem. It was clear Plapp wasn't going to overtake his senior as he applauded Porte across the finish line. A very promising season start for the new NORTHWAVE athlete which for sure seems to give us a lot of satisfactions. Richie Porte wears, like the other NORTHWAVE athletes, the “Extreme Pro Special editions” developed to celebrate the 30th anniversary
